MBA Group identified a growing need to modernise its Warrington site infrastructure to support increasing staff demand for electric vehicle (EV) charging, strengthen sustainability commitments, and prepare the site for future growth and regulatory expectations. The lack of on-site EV charging was becoming a limiting factor for staff and visitors who had transitioned to electric vehicles.

The scope included DNO applications, civils, electrical upgrades, charger installation, testing, commissioning, and handover. In addition, Ask Renewable Solutions managed the OZEV grant process, reducing overall project costs and delivering excellent commercial value.

 

The Solution

 

The project delivered two dual 22kW EV chargers, providing four charging outlets for staff and visitors. Infrastructure upgrades included a new MCCB panel, surge protection, RCDs, cabling, containment, civils work, protective crash barriers, RFID-controlled access, and Wi-Fi-enabled management. Installation was completed with minimal disruption to site operations.

Like many businesses and homeowners across the UK, a commercial property in Wigan, Greater Manchester, felt the pressure of rising energy costs. In search of a long-term solution, the owners sought to reduce operating costs and improve energy resilience by investing in a renewable energy system. ASK Renewable Solutions was contracted to install a three-phase battery storage system, making a strategic shift away from full grid reliance and towards harnessing renewable energy with a HANCHU battery storage system.

The property had previously relied entirely on grid energy to meet its power demands. Rising energy prices were placing significant strain on operating costs, and the owners needed a long-term solution that would reduce grid reliance, protect profits, and future-proof the building’s energy infrastructure.

ASK Renewable Solutions designed and delivered a commercial-scale system tailored to the property’s requirements. Their end-to-end approach combined a large PV array with a HANCHU ESS battery storage solution, providing a complete renewable energy package without the need to manage multiple contractors.

 

The Solution

 

The system comprises a 50kW C&I three-phase hybrid inverter paired with a stack of HANCHU ESS 9.4kWh high voltage batteries, totalling a storage capacity of 28.2kWh. Supported by 136 Jinko 440W solar panels, the system now handles heavy loads whilst storing excess solar energy for use during non-generating hours.

Results & Benefits

 

Between January 24th and May 1st 2025, the property consumed 24,800 kWh of electricity, which would have cost £7,192 at a rate of 29p per unit. During the same period, the solar panels generated 16,100 kWh of electricity, out of which 14,000 kWh was used and stored in batteries (for later use), resulting in a saving of £4,060. The remaining 2,100 kWh was exported to the grid, earning £315 at a rate of 15p per unit.

 

In total, the owners effectively saved £4,375 over approximately three months. The client now benefits from significantly reduced energy bills, greater grid independence, and future-proofed infrastructure ready for EV integration or system expansion.
